For those entering the industry with little or no previous gas experience, the Level 3 Gas Engineering Managed Learning Programme (MLP) provides a structured training route combining centre-based learning with supervised workplace experience.
During the programme, learners develop their technical knowledge and practical skills before gaining supervised experience in a real working environment. This workplace experience is recorded through a Gas Work Log (Portfolio of Evidence) and forms an important part of progression through the programme.
Once the required training and workplace evidence have been completed, learners can progress to the relevant final assessments and ACS assessments, including CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety and any appliance categories required for their intended scope of work.
Successful completion of the relevant training and assessments can support progression towards Gas Safe registration. Gas Safe registration is a separate process and applicants must meet the relevant registration requirements before undertaking gas work that legally requires registration.

A Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP) is a structured training route for people entering the gas industry, including new entrants and learners with relevant existing experience or knowledge of the building engineering sector.

At Kelly Energy Training, the Level 3 Gas Engineering Managed Learning Programme includes 43 days of centre-based training. Training covers areas including gas safety legislation, installation principles, tightness testing and purging, pipework installation, domestic gas appliances, fault-finding and diagnostics, practical workshop activities and preparation for assessment.
Learners must also complete supervised workplace experience with a suitably competent Gas Safe registered engineer or approved workplace mentor. During this stage, learners build their Gas Work Log (Portfolio of Evidence) by recording practical experience gained in a real working environment.
Once the required centre-based training and workplace portfolio have been completed, learners can progress to the relevant final assessments and initial ACS assessments.
